How Old Are Your Appliances? How Old Are Your Appliances?

How Old Are Your Appliances Older appliances can fail at any time. A Dishwasher for example can have a pump failure then over flow into your kitchen. Water then is absorbed into the cabinets, settle in the base and run to adjacent areas causing more damage. This is true, especially if you turn the unit on and leave the house to run errands or traveling. Garbage disposals can fail where worn our seals are present. Thus water leaks under the sink, into the base of the cabinets and causing water to run to the adjacent areas as well. Washing machines: Old supply hoses, old drain pumps can do just about the same amount of damage or more, depending on how much water is in the washer or how long the supply line runs. With a supply line to a washing machine, it could be just like turning on a water hose in the house and letting it run for hours. There have been instances where over 2000 gallons have been removed from a single story home. While we do realize not every appliance will fail, these are just instances where they have failed. We provided tips based on different types of water losses we encounter on a weekly or monthly basis. A little bit of prevention could save you thousands of dollars. The best prevention tip: Have your appliances check on a regular basis. Supply lines are recommended to be changed every 5 years, Appliances should be checked every 3 years and if they are over 10 years old, they could be a ticking time bomb for failure.
